This documentary, a collaborative effort between filmmaker and adoptee, Rebecca Autumn Sansom, and her biological mother, Jill Hawkins, Ph.D., delves into the profound subject of relinquishment trauma, also known as the primal wound. It offers a unique perspective from both sides of the adoption experience.
As Sansom herself shares, "The book 'The Primal Wound' introduced me to an alternative narrative about adoption, one that resonated deeply with my feelings of loss and grief—a perspective I had never encountered until I came across Verrier's remarkably insightful words."

Hiraeth Hope & Healing will be hosting a viewing of the documentary, Reckoning With The Primal Wound. We will view it together via Zoom on January 7, 2023 @3:00 PM EDT, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Rebecca Autumn. Tickets are $10.00 PP. This viewing will be available to anyone outside our trio of communities, as we feel it is a must see for everyone! Even if you’ve already watched this, we invite you to watch again. Each viewing reveals something new! This is the second of many viewings Hiraeth Hope & Healing will host in support of Rebecca Autumn and this documentary.
